  • Main emphasis is to integrate the diverse groups and strengthen the party collaboration.
  • Training will be one of the plans, recruitment, and building a trusted network for 2027.

Following the problem of organizational challenge from 2023, the Labour Party (LP) has launched a robust grassroots strategy to prepare and build support network towards 2027 elections.

It involves restructuring of state directorates and inaugurating state coordinators from the local government areas in Nigeria.

According to LP’s Director General of Mobilization and Integration, Marcel Ngogbehei, and LP’s Deputy Director of Strategic Engagements, Sheikh Rufai Al-Saddiq, emphasis was placed on the idea of bridging the disconnect between party structures and grassroots organizations.

‘We are bringing in a tactical plan in 2027 where we will synchronize state directorates to party chairmen and embrace a diversity of pressure groups like the trade unions and professional associations,’ Ngobehei said.

New leadership and integration, training

The Labour Party is part of the strategy and will hire and train state mobilisation teams such as coordinators, assistant coordinators and senatorial representatives.

These teams will mobilize grassroots engagement and assist to strengthen the necessary bridges that connect the party with its support structures.

“We’re trying to establish an integrity network – loyalty to the party and also teamwork and growth of skills,” Ngogbehei added.

It also hopes to attract diverse groups and to form a convener council to assist with campaign and membership recruitment.
