Customs to Recruit 3,927 Officers to Boost its Operations

According to Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the organization has set out plans to recruit 3,927 officers, which is a move to improve the ease of doing business at the nation’s borders.

The 61st quarterly meeting of the NCS Board, chaired by Minister of Finance Olawale Edun in Abuja approved the recruitment initiative.

It further disclosed that the NCS has done very well on revenue, accounting for more than ₦5 trillion by the beginning of November 2024, just as it is contributing significantly to the government’s ₦35 trillion revenue projection for 2025.

This milestone comes on the heels of reforms undertaken under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and increase efficiency and output of the agency.

Workforce expansion for the purpose of strengthening economic growth

Edun commended the NCS for its efforts in curtailing smuggling and promoting trade and said the body was ‘critical’ to Nigeria’s economic recovery and job creation.

He added: “The Contributions of the Customs are critical for Growth and to achieve the government’s ambitious ₦48 trillion expenditure target for 2025”

The recruitment exercise is to give young Nigerians the opportunity to either join the service or work remotely with the NCS to drive economic growth and development.

Though details of the recruitment process are not yet available, the initiative is a sign that NCS is working to build its workforce up to meet rising operational demands.
