  • Oil production rose from 1.4 to 1.8 million barrels daily.
  • Nigerian Army prioritizes welfare and professionalism for its personnel.
  • Local cooperation is essential to combat oil theft in Niger Delta.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, declared on Christmas Day that the Nigerian Army is achieving substantial success in its fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.

Represented by Major General Kevin Aligbe at a Christmas luncheon with frontline troops in Port Harcourt, Oluyede highlighted a recent boost in oil production as a direct outcome of the Army’s intensified operations to safeguard national assets.

“Just a few months ago, we were producing less than 1.4 million barrels per day. Now, we are around 1.8 million barrels per day,” Oluyede said. “This increase underscores the dedication of our troops and the importance the government places on protecting revenue streams.”

Dedicated troops combat oil theft in Niger Delta

The Army’s efforts are being spearheaded by the 6 Division and the Land Component of Operation Delta Safe.

These units are tasked with securing pipelines and crude oil facilities throughout the Niger Delta.

According to Punch, the Chief of Army Staff noted that achieving further success will require the continued support and cooperation of local communities.

To motivate soldiers deployed in conflict zones and peacekeeping operations, Oluyede extended gratitude for their sacrifices, particularly during the festive season.

In addition, he acknowledged their efforts in securing lives and properties and emphasized the importance of remaining apolitical and committed to constitutional responsibilities.

“Your patriotism and dedication do not go unnoticed,” Oluyede said. “The collective efforts of our troops are deeply appreciated by Nigerians and our friends abroad.”

Boosting welfare and professionalism among army personnel

Oluyede reiterated his administration’s focus on the welfare of soldiers and their families, including those injured or deceased in the line of duty.

However, he promised that issues related to professionalism, combat readiness, and resource allocation would remain priorities under his leadership.

“This aligns with my command’s philosophy of creating a well-motivated, combat-ready force capable of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and aiding civil authorities effectively,” Oluyede said.

Moreover, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo, praised the Army for its efforts in maintaining peace and protecting critical assets in the state.

“The peace and security we enjoy today are a direct result of your hard work and discipline,” Fubara said, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting the Army’s operations.

Army’s sustained efforts earn public recognition

The event underscored the Army’s pivotal role in national security. Oluyede and other officials highlighted the symbolic importance of senior officers serving alongside junior operatives during the luncheon, likening it to Biblical teachings of humility and service.

Furthermore, the Chief of Army Staff ended his message by reaffirming the Army’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in a joint and multi-agency framework.

“The Nigerian Army will continue to be determined and focused on winning all battles in defense of our national interests,” he said.
