To Reduce Festive Transportation, Customs Auction Seized Petrol

In a bid to slash down transportation inconvenience that the yuletide season brings, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stated that it will auction seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the public at discounted rate.

Speaking with reporters at a media briefing in Ikeja, Hussein Ejibunu, National Coordinator, Operation Whirlwind, explained the initiative.

Affordable fuel for public convenience

Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), said on Thursday that they will auction the seized goods at ₦10,000 per 25 liters. The move is part of the effort of the service to ease transportation cost for Nigerians during the Yuletide.

According to Ejibunu ‘The legal adviser has completed court condemnation orders and all legal processes,’ they said. ‘This will, not only be a deterrent to economic saboteurs but will also provide relief to Nigerians who are going through transportation

‘Ejibunu noted that Operation Whirlwind has been successful since its commencement on May 27, 2024, and operatives will be on, to end economic sabotage, in the country’.

“In this regard, this initiative demonstrates our determination to maintain the tempo against the saboteurs but deal with the citizens during this festive season,” he concluded.
