Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially approved the appointment of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland.

This approval was finalized during the Osun State Executive Council meeting on Friday, December 27, 2024, chaired by Governor Adeleke.

In addition to Haastrup’s appointment, the council also confirmed Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.

These appointments come after the demise of the respective predecessors, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II in September 2024 and Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe in November 2023.

Haastrup emerges as Owa Obokun Adimula

Prince Adesuyi Haastrup, representing the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House, emerged as the Owa-elect following a vote by the kingmakers held at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat.

His selection marks the beginning of a new chapter in Ijeshaland’s traditional leadership.

The late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, who held the title for decades, passed away on September 11, 2024.

His demise left a significant leadership void that the government and traditional stakeholders have worked to fill.

Abikoye named Asaoni of Ora Igbomina

Meanwhile, Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye was appointed as the Asaoni of Ora Igbomina. His selection followed the passing of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on November 19, 2023.

Governor Adeleke highlighted that both appointments were carefully considered to maintain stability and continuity in the communities.

According to a statement released by Kolapo Alimi, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, the decisions were finalized after thorough deliberation by the executive council.

Adeleke urges unity and peace

Governor Adeleke extended his congratulations to both newly appointed monarchs and called on residents of Ijeshaland and Ora Igbomina to support their new traditional rulers.

According to Punch, he stressed the importance of peace and unity in fostering progress and development within the communities.

“I urge the people of Ijeshaland and Ora Igbomina to cooperate fully with their new monarchs. Let peace and unity take center stage as we work together to strengthen our communities,” Adeleke said.

The governor’s message underscores the critical role of traditional rulers in maintaining harmony and driving development across Osun State.
