Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday reiterated his administration’s commitment to increasing young people’s enrolment in military formations, saying it would boost national security.
The Lagos state governor, Mr Sanwoo Olu, had while speaking at the departure ceremony of 88 Regular Recruit Intakes (RRI) from Lagos on Monday advocated that Lagos indigenes do their own bits for the nation’s security architecture.
The governor represented by Deputy Gov Dr. Oba Hamzat at the event which held at the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to resilience and professionalism. He urged the recruits to take up core values including integrity, professionalism and loyalty.
How inclusivity helps in strengthening security
‘The inclusion of Lagos youths in the military helps improve the state and also nation’s security frameworks’ Sanwo-Olu added.
He said joining its ranks means that you commit to the safety, stability, and prosperity of our country. He also assured the recruits that Nigerian Army would continue to carry on their welfare throughout their service.
Lagos State Government has done well in sensitizing and guiding its indigenes on how to go about recruitment, Brig. Gen. Olawale Oyekola, Commander of the 9 Brigade said. ‘He revealed that a total of 144 recruits, made up of five females and 136 males, were selected from the state and they will be train at Army Depot, Zaria,’ he added.
A call for excellence and dedication
Recruits, who spoke, Olanrewaju Ajidagba thanked the Lagos State Government for its support and promised to be good ambassadors of the State and the nation.
Sanwo Olu also urged the recruits to protect the values of the Nigerian Army and make Lagos proud and by implication become an integral segment in the on going national unity and security.
