In just 19 days, Funke Akindele’s most recent film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, became the fastest Nollywood film to reach the ₦1 billion mark.

Everybody Loves Jenifa breaks Nollywood’s ₦1 billion record in 19 days

To date, the movie has brought in ₦1.03 billion, according to FilmOne Entertainment. It eclipsed Akindele’s last blockbuster film, A Tribe Called Judah, which, 21 days after its premiere, hit the ₦1 billion milestone.

As stated by Business day, the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time are now all Akindele. A Tribe Called Judah (₦1.4 billion), Battle On Buka Street (₦668 million), and Omo Ghetto: The Saga (₦636 million) are some of her other flicks. Forty percent of the 201,604 box office admissions in December were attributable to Everybody Loves Jenifa.

Film reaches $100,000 in diaspora sales during opening weekend

The movie, which is distributed by Nile Entertainment under Moses Babatunde, is presently playing in 30 worldwide theaters, including ones in Australia, the US, and the UK, where its first showing sold out.

The film became the first Nollywood film to reach the $100,000 mark in diaspora sales on its first weekend of release. With projections indicating it might exceed ₦2 billion, it is expected to beat the ₦1.4 billion standard set by A Tribe Called Judah.
