In a statement the House of Representatives disclosed the death of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga who was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
She passed on after a brief illness on the 15th of January, 2025.
The legacy of laborate dedication and leadership
Hon. Onanuga was an outstanding public figure and a staunch fighter for the improvement of her constituency, she was born on the 2nd of December, 1965. She assumed duty at the House in 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In her first term, she presided over the parliament’s House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development and also sponsored policies that supported women and changed welfare.
Elected to serve another term in 2023, Onanuga was Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly and showed huge leadership and discipline.
Affectionately called Ijaya, she was brilliant, hardworking, and always sought perfection as recognized by her peers and constituents.
A statement of condolence
According to the House Spokesperson Rep, Akin Rotimi, Onanuga was a visionary leader and an active fighter for change and a better society.
”On behalf of the Government and good people of Ogun State, particularly the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency and the entire membership of the National Assembly, we join family and friends of Mrs. Funmilayo Olatunbosun to commiserate with them on this great loss.”
Rotimi added: “Her accomplishments especially in the field of service and commitment to duty will be felt in the coming generations.”
