Aregbesola’s Group Stepped Out of APC

KEY POINTS

  • The Omoluabi Progressives group under Rauf Aregbesola left APC.
  • The group released its statement because it felt ignored by APC leadership and experienced issues with leadership as well as internal party conflicts.
  • APC officials gave no official response while calling it a good riddance.

The Omoluabi Progressives under Rauf Aregbesola relinquished their membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) because they felt neglected by the party while dealing with leadership struggles.

Oluwaseun Abosede from the Organising and Publicity Secretary position of the group issued this statement after 332 Osun State wards endorsed the decision through ratification.

The group criticized the APC leadership for poor management of their internal crisis because they believed this mismanagement led to their recent election losses.

Aregbesola insisted during his meeting with members that Osun State needed unified responsible leadership to achieve prosperity.

During his speech he instructed members to build good governance practices within the organization alongside strengthening inclusivity by welcoming people who embrace state advancement.

The APC issued an official statement calling the move a “good riddance” against the defectors.

Osun APC’s response

The Osun APC showed immediate reaction by declaring that Omoluabi Progressives’ departure failed to produce any effect.

The party’s official spokesman Chief Kola Olabisi branded this faction a “disoriented group” while revealing this exodus signals the emerging end of its political existence.

The APC delivered two criticisms toward the group through their leader Olabisi who charged that the pact opposed their electoral plans during 2022 elections and called their move “a political funeral.”

The APC’s spokesperson maintained that the political party wishes to develop its foundation while simultaneously declaring the Omoluabi Progressives obsolete for the party’s concerns.

According to the APC leadership the group’s announcement served no purpose since all its existing members had already received either expulsions or suspensions before their official statement.

This transition event and tension between political factions has laid vital groundwork for added political coordination that will guide Osun State towards its 2026 gubernatorial elections.
