Obi Rejects Akande’s #EndSARS Claims as Historical Distortion

Published on

KEY POINTS

  • Obi flatly denies Akande’s opinion about his supporters triggering the #EndSARS movement.
  • The Obidients view Akande’s statement as an incorrect historical timeline that divides Nigerian society.
  • The movement demands politicians to address urgent domestic problems facing Nigeria.

Peter Obi refuted strongly the argument from former Osun State governor Bisi Akande that his supporters orchestrated the 2020 #EndSARS protests to stop Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign.

The Obidient Movement together with Obi strongly criticized Bisi Akande’s declaration as an offense towards victims of the protests while trying to modify historical events.

Umar Ibrahim who serves as Obi’s media aide gave scathing criticism to Akande’s comments because they spread division and false information.

The #EndSARS protests emerged because people across the nation were furious about police brutality as well as state corruption but not because of political motivations.

Call to focus on national issues

Tanko Yunusa from the Obidient Movement Worldwide condemned Akande’s statement by calling it a desperate attempt to misplace responsibility.

Tanko Yunusa emphasized that #EndSARS arose from the grassroots to fight injustice and requested politicians would concentrate on genuine challenges facing Nigeria rather than creating false information.
