KEY POINTS

  • The FG plans to acquire incomplete sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway before April arrives.
  • The completion of remaining 8.55 kilometers requires N30 billion to finalize the project.
  • The Nigerian government has approved major road construction contracts amounting to N242 billion throughout the country.

The Nigerian Federal Government has established April 2025 as the deadline for contractors working on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway because it will take over unfinished work to meet project completion targets.

Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi announced the information following President Bola Tinubu leading the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He stated clearly that Julius Berger has finalized work on its designated stretch of the N213 billion project while RCC continues to execute its section.

The completion of the N30 billion needed sections includes the 8.55 kilometer Lagos-bound carriageway along with the two remaining areas.

The 14 major road projects under FEC’s Renewed Hope Agenda were approved for a total amount of N242.148 billion over different states.

The government funded the Agaye-Kachia-Baro Road in Niger State with a value of N22 billion and spent N26.3 billion on Odukpani Junction-Apeti section of the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Road in Cross River State.

The government shows a hard position regarding infrastructure project delays by making clear its zero-tolerance stance according to Umahi.
