Oil Marketers Campaign For A Balanced Competitive Environment

Published on

KEY POINTS

  • The oil marketing sector stands in support of an open petroleum industry structure that excludes monopolies.
  • PETROAN works both to refine petroleum products and import them for maintaining product availability.
  • The oil marketers operate in both NNPCL facilities and those of Dangote Refinery.

Under the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) oil marketers seek a competitive petroleum market against the monopolistic control of refining and distribution operations.

PETROAN President Billy Gillis-Harry argued for balanced market competition because home refining and importation together create better pricing benefits.

He pointed out that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) enables importation operations therefore any discouragement would be unjustified.

The market should enable refinery operations alongside depot profits and retail services to serve Nigerian consumer requirements he stated.

PETROAN members operate a strategy that involves obtaining petroleum products from the entire spectrum of sources which includes the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery to support continuous supply.
