The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has conferred emeritus professor titles on three of its esteemed retirees: Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, Prof. Olu Obafemi, and Prof. Musbau Akanji.

University Senate approved the decision during its 304th meeting on Thursday to honor retired academics for their exceptional work.

Prof. UNILORIN former Vice-Chancellor Is’haq Oloyede pursued exploitation with JAMB after retiring in October 2024 from his post. Through his academic work and public service activities he has acquired widespread significant public recognition.

Distinguished scholar of English and Dramatic Literature Prof. Olu Obafemi closed his academic career in 2020. The humanities and creative arts fields under his influence have made substantial transformative impacts on literary studies and Nigerian performance arts research.

A biochemist and former Vice-Chancellor of two institutions including Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin and Federal University of Technology in Minna – Prof. Musbau Akanji retired from service in 2021. They recognizes him for advancing biochemistry while leading his academic efforts.

Honoring decades of impactful contributions

According to UNILORIN Director of Corporate Affairs Kunle Akogun the university chose these appointees to show appreciation for their outstanding academic and research achievements alongside their work for university advancement.

According to Akogun the recognition recognizes these academics for their transformative impact on academic research while their ongoing scholarly influence resonates with students through multiple generations.

These three professors have become part of a distinguished group of emeritus professors because their work maintains its influence on academic dialogues along with university growth both inside and outside UNILORIN’s walls.
