APGA and LP Feud Fuels Insecurity in Ihiala

Published on

KEY POINTS

  • The political tension between APGA and LP functions as the main cause for insecurity to rise in Ihiala.
  • Allegations of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency within the IPU.
  • Public officials continue to examine how security initiative funds were wrongfully utilized.

The political tension between All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party (LP) in Ihiala, Anambra State causes stakeholders to hold the two political factions responsible for the growing security concerns.

The ongoing political rivalry between APGA and LP has led to security difficulties that prevent restoration of order in the community.

APGA and LP feud undermines security efforts

The Ihiala Progress Union President General Mr. Okey Ohagba declared his support for Labour Party yet most community stakeholders stand behind APGA which leads the government.

The presence of APGA and LP feud has reportedly damaged the possibility of security collaborations between stakeholders. Although the government has taken action, Ihiala suffers from regular gun attacks which have led to multiple recent violence outbreaks.

The rescue operation removed the Reverend Father who experienced a kidnapping in Ichida Anaocha Local Government Area from his enemy’s guardians while they transported him through Ihiala.

Allegations of sabotage and financial mismanagement

As part of a public gathering in Awka Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu gathered various citizens from Ihiala to accuse the PG of jeopardizing security plans through his political interests. The Vice President General of IPU, Hon. Collins Agbasiere also clarified that the PG moved away from the union’s shared mission by choosing to partner with individuals who blocked its path forward.

Agbasiere accused the PG of managing N100 million security funds incorrectly because he failed to deliver transparent accounts regarding their usage to Ihiala taxpayers.

Following these questions the PG made all executive members leave the union platform which prompted them to seek state government intervention for an investigation.
