Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed profound grief following the untimely death of Honorable Aminu Kasuwar-Daji, a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Kauran Namoda South constituency.

The Guardian reports that the lawmaker passed away unexpectedly in his sleep early Wednesday morning at his residence in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area.

In an official statement released Thursday by his spokesperson Sulaiman Idris, Governor Lawal described the deceased as “a committed public servant who dedicated his life to serving his constituents.” The governor extended condolences to the leadership of the state assembly, the people of Kauran Namoda, and the bereaved family.

A high-powered government delegation led by Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni immediately traveled to Kauran Namoda to attend the burial rites in accordance with Islamic traditions. The late lawmaker was interred Wednesday afternoon amid emotional scenes as colleagues and constituents paid their last respects.

A sudden loss for Zamfara’s legislative work

The passing of Kasuwar-Daji creates a temporary vacancy in the state assembly at a critical time when the house was deliberating on key security and development bills. Assembly Speaker Aliyu Garba described the deceased as “a voice of reason who always prioritized his people’s welfare in legislative debates.”

Political analysts note the late lawmaker had been particularly active in recent months, sponsoring motions on rural development and security challenges facing Zamfara. His sudden demise comes as the state grapples with persistent banditry and economic difficulties.

Governor Lawal’s statement emphasized the deceased’s legacy: “We pray Allah grants him Aljannat Firdaus and gives his family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.” The governor has declared three days of official mourning, with flags flown at half-mast across government buildings.

The state government has announced plans to support the family through the mourning period while constitutional procedures begin to fill the vacant assembly seat. Colleagues remember Kasuwar-Daji as a grassroots politician who maintained close ties with his constituency throughout his tenure.
