On Saturday, April 13, 2025, at least eight people were killed and 21 others injured in a bomb blast believed to have been orchestrated by Boko Haram terrorists.
The explosion occurred on the Maiduguri-Damboa Road, a major highway connecting the Maiduguri and Damboa local government areas in Borno State.
The bomb targeted a commuter bus transporting passengers to Maiduguri.
Injuries and Response
Fourteen of the injured victims sustained severe wounds, while the remaining seven received treatment for minor injuries at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
Following the tragic event, Borno Governor Babagana Zulum visited the survivors at the hospital and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Security Measures and Support
Governor Zulum described the attack as “regrettable,” noting that Borno had not seen an IED attack in over a year.
In response, he reaffirmed his commitment to fighting terrorism and strengthening local security measures, including supporting the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local youth volunteers involved in counter-insurgency operations.
Zulum further urged the Nigerian military and security agencies to enhance surveillance along the highway to prevent future attacks. The attack has reignited concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram activities in the region.
Former senator Shehu Sani also shared his condolences on social media, calling the explosion “tragic, unfortunate, and condemnable.”
