Through the Ministry of Power, the federal government has reported advancements in its mass metering initiative in army formations across the country.
The officials indicated that the project’s financial and operational efficacy was demonstrated by the N769.1 million in revenue it produced between August 2024 and April 2025.

Army sees revenue boost through mass metering project

In March 2024, the government started an N40 billion project to solve the projected billing problems that military barracks inhabitants experienced.
A phased implementation plan was presented by Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu during the flag-off ceremony held at the 9th Brigade, Ikeja cantonment.

The exercise’s initial phase, which aimed to install smart meters in significant military installations, was conducted in the Ikeja cantonment.
Officials stated that the metering scheme has demonstrated quantifiable success and enhanced power transparency in army barracks, despite a number of logistical challenges.

Despite initial administrative and financial difficulties, the project’s progress was confirmed in a statement by Bolaji Tunji, the power minister’s special adviser.
The statement stated that the ministry is still dedicated to openness and financial responsibility while expanding energy infrastructure in government agencies such as the military.

Army chief commends energy efficiency progress in barracks

Tunji referenced a letter from the Chief of Army Staff to De-Haryor Global Services, in which he commended the project’s implementation thus far.
Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede praised the enhanced energy management and power supply, confirming its positive effects on day-to-day living in military communities around the country.

According to Business day, Oluyede’s signer, Maj. Gen. A.A. Fadayiro, stated that phase one is almost finished in the barracks in Lagos, Enugu, and Abuja.
In order to keep up the momentum and reach the country’s energy efficiency targets, he ordered the contractor to step up work on the next phases.

Although financing difficulties originally hindered mobilization, Ashade Olatunbosun, CEO of De-Haryor Global Services, reported significant gains in recent implementation phases.
According to him, the installation of thousands of smart meters has greatly improved army sites’ energy efficiency, service accountability, and billing accuracy.

In a project evaluation, Olatunbosun stated that “the project has generated N769.1 million in revenue between August 2024 and April 2025, despite challenges.”
He attributed effective revenue recovery and technical delivery to close military cooperation, which has sparked discussions about metering expansion across the country.

Olatunbosun continued, promising assistance for sustainable development projects, “This is a significant step in modernizing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, particularly in public institutions.”
The ministry’s statement continued, “The initiative reflects efforts to resolve national power deficits and promote fiscal discipline through innovative metering solutions.”
