Police in Ogun State say they have arrested two suspected student cultists who were allegedly found with a human skull and a locally made pistol. This has raised fears that cult-related violence will return to Nigeria’s universities.

According to police spokesman Omolola Odutola, the suspects were caught in Abeokuta, the state capital, after an operation based on intelligence. She said that the arrest showed how serious the state is about dealing with one of the most persistent security problems on campuses and in nearby communities.

Suspected student cultists found with a human skull

According to investigators, the men, who are thought to be in their twenties, were stopped late at night while on a routine patrol. According to reports, officers found the skull and gun hidden in a bag along with charms and other items that are often associated with secret cult rituals.

Odutola said, “The discovery was shocking.” “It is not only against the law, but it also shows how much cultism has a hold on our young people.” She also said that the suspects are now helping detectives with more investigations.

People in Ogun are worried about cult violence

For decades, cult-related violence has been a problem at many Nigerian universities, and it often spreads to nearby neighborhoods, where it has deadly effects. Authorities say that cult rivalries cause dozens of deaths every year, with fights using machetes, guns, and other weapons.

According to a report by Vanguard news, people in Abeokuta say that the most recent arrest has made them more worried about their safety, especially since the start of a new school year is coming up. “Parents are worried about sending their kids to school.” Olanrewaju Adisa, a community leader in the city, said, “We don’t want to keep burying young people.”

The police have promised to step up their efforts to find the larger group of people who are behind the suspects. Odutola said, “This is not an isolated incident.” He stressed that security forces will follow up on information that leads them to cult hideouts all over Ogun State.

Police are cracking down harder on suspected student cultists

The Ogun State Police Command said it is working more closely with universities, community vigilantes, and religious groups to stop cult activities. Authorities also want changes to the law that will speed up the prosecution of criminals.

Security experts say that cultism continues because of deep-seated social and economic problems like poverty, unemployment, and students’ need to feel like they belong. Experts say that police need to do more than just crack down on secret cult groups. They need to do more to make them less appealing.

The two suspects are still in jail while police try to figure out where the skull came from and if it has anything to do with any recent disappearances. As the case moves forward, the police have promised to make more information public.
