Presidency Sets N12.2bn For Travel In 2026 As State House Budget Hits N43.2bn

The Presidency plans to spend N12.2 billion on foreign and local travel in 2026 for President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their aides.

The figures are contained in the 2026 budget proposal currently before the National Assembly.

Details from the State House estimates show that travel remains one of the biggest spending areas for the Presidency, even as the government talks about cutting costs and reforming public spending.

President Tinubu’s Travel Allocation

President Tinubu alone is allocated N7.01 billion for travel and transport. Most of that amount, N6.14 billion, is set aside for international trips and related costs. Local travel accounts for N873.89 million.

Vice President’s Travel Budget

The Vice President’s travel budget stands at N1.73 billion. This includes N1.31 billion for foreign trips and N417.49 million for travel within Nigeria.

Apart from these, the State House Headquarters has a separate allocation of N3.43 billion for general travel and transport.

Other Presidency Expenses

The budget also lists several other expenses linked to the Presidency. N179.01 million is provided for buying motor vehicles for the President. Food and catering supplies are estimated at N375.19 million, while drugs and medical supplies will cost N79.68 million. Refreshments and meals take up another N56.43 million.

When all items are added, total spending connected to the President comes to N8.39 billion. Capital spending within this amount is put at N777.19 million.

Vice President’s Additional Costs

For the Vice President, additional costs include N171.03 million for food and catering, N14.99 million for refreshments and meals, and N21.8 million for honorarium and sitting allowances. Welfare packages are budgeted at N28 million, while publicity and advertising will cost N11.83 million.

Altogether, the Vice President’s budget comes to N2.64 billion. Out of that amount, N641.39 million is set aside for capital spending, mainly for equipment and long-term support items.

State House Headquarters Allocation

The State House Headquarters is expected to receive N43.20 billion in the 2026 budget. This covers N2.64 billion for salaries and staff-related costs, N10.10 billion for day-to-day running expenses, and N30.49 billion for major projects.

Breakdown Of State House Spending

A closer look at the figures shows N11.23 billion allocated for buying vehicles and N7 billion for solar power projects within the Villa.

Wildlife conservation at the State House is budgeted at N2.42 billion, while honorarium and sitting allowances are put at N2.12 billion.

Office furniture and fittings are expected to cost N2.56 billion. Welfare packages are estimated at N513.84 million, and vehicle repairs and spare parts are set to take N3.84 billion.
