  • Over 135,000 Nigerians have completed 3MTT training so far.

  • More than 1.8 million participants are currently in the programme pipeline.

  • The new challenge focuses on outcomes beyond classroom learning.

The Federal Government has launched a new Impact Challenge aimed at enhancing outcomes from its 3 Million Tech Talent Training Initiative, marking a new phase in the country’s expanding digital skills agenda.

Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, disclosed the development on Tuesday via his X account, pointing to steady progress recorded during the pilot stage of the 3 Million Tech Talent programme, widely known as 3MTT.

According to Tijani, more than 135,000 Nigerians have completed training across three cohorts since the pilot began. He said community-led resources have also opened access to learning materials for an additional 300,000 participants, broadening the programme’s reach beyond its formal structure. The initiative has already supported about 15,000 job placements and opportunity pathways, reflecting early labour market linkages.

The minister added that interest in the programme continues to build, with more than 1.8 million Nigerians now in the pipeline as the government pushes toward its goal of equipping three million citizens with practical digital skills.

Scaling the digital workforce

As the programme moves into its expansion phase, the Impact Challenge is being positioned as a tool for assessing whether training outcomes are translating into relevant economic value.

Tijani said the focus at this stage is on strengthening impact rather than just increasing numbers. He noted that the government intends to strengthen the alumni community, widen access to opportunities, and ensure that skills gained during training lead to measurable outcomes in jobs, entrepreneurship, and career growth.

He reiterated that the scale-up phase would pay closer attention to how fellows apply their skills after training, particularly as the programme spreads to more regions and sectors.

3MTT Impact Challenge participation

As part of the next phase, Tijani invited fellows and partners to share first-hand accounts of how the programme has shaped their personal and professional developments through the #3MTTImpactChallenge and the 3MTT National Impact Reflection.

Participants are asked to share their personal transformation stories on platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, and Instagram, with submissions closing on February 14. These submissions are meant to capture real experiences, giving the government direct insight into how the initiative is shaping lives beyond the classroom.

According to 3MTT, selected participants will receive incentives that include 10 laptops, 200 electronic tablets, 10GB data bundles, and other rewards.
