The University of Jos, UNIJOS, has suspended all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The decision was taken as security concerns heightened across the area after the violence, which claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday, triggering panic among residents, including students and staff of the university who live within and around the affected community.

Authorities say the situation prompted urgent safety measures to prevent potential risks to members of the institution.

Plateau Government Imposes 48-Hour Curfew

In response to the attack, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on the affected area to contain tensions and prevent further violence. Security agencies were deployed to restore calm and maintain law and order.

Reports indicate that at least 13 people were killed in the assault, while several others sustained injuries. The development has raised renewed concerns about recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, particularly in communities affected by long-standing conflicts.

In a statement, Deputy Registrar Emmanuel Madugu said the university management decided to postpone the examinations to ensure the safety of students and staff, many of whom reside in the affected areas.

He advised members of the university community to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the institution’s security unit.

The management also assured that new dates for the postponed examinations would be communicated in due course.
