  • Bande did not reveal his next political destination but promised to announce his future plans soon.

Major General Aminu Bande (Rtd), who contested the 2023 governorship election in Kebbi State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally resigned his membership from the opposition party.

In a resignation letter dated April 5, 2026, Bande announced that his decision takes immediate effect, bringing an end to his political association with the PDP after his role as the party’s governorship flagbearer in the last election cycle.

Explaining the reason for his departure, the retired Army General said the move was taken after consultations and in alignment with what he described as the collective decision of his people. According to him, the step is aimed at promoting good governance both in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.

Bande noted that his political future would be clarified in due course, suggesting that he may soon announce his next political move. However, he did not disclose whether he would join another political party or pursue an alternative political path.

Exit Comes Amid Political Realignments in Kebbi

His resignation comes at a time of evolving political dynamics in Kebbi State, where parties and political actors are repositioning ahead of future electoral contests. Observers say the departure of a prominent figure like Bande could influence political alignments in the state.

Although he did not directly criticise the PDP in his letter, his exit is expected to spark reactions within the party’s state structure and among supporters who backed his 2023 governorship bid.

Bande concluded by indicating that further announcements regarding his next steps would be made soon, leaving room for speculation about his possible political destination.
