Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, allegedly intervened on Tuesday morning to prevent the arrest of Isese advocate Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to sources cited by SaharaReporters, police officers arrived at Olohun’s home and attempted to take him into custody over an ongoing criminal case connected to a social media video.
The video was reportedly published on Facebook, YouTube and TikTok and has been criticised by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, which accused Olohun of mocking an Islamic prayer and making comments capable of causing religious tension.
Family reportedly calls Sunday Igboho
Sources said Olohun’s family contacted Igboho after the police arrived and that the activist subsequently came to the residence with some supporters.
One source alleged that Igboho resisted the attempt to take Olohun away, while another claimed the intervention followed a scuffle between Olohun and the officers.
The source further alleged that Igboho asked the officers to hand Olohun over to him, insisting that they could not arrest him despite an alleged court-issued warrant.
The claims surrounding the confrontation have not been independently verified.
A Facebook Live broadcast shared by Olohun’s relatives showed men at the residence identifying themselves as police officers.
During the broadcast, relatives accused the men of behaving like kidnappers and appealed for public intervention. Footage reportedly seen by SaharaReporters showed Olohun sitting near a tap while two officers stood nearby.
A person recording the incident also alleged that the officers had travelled from Ilorin, Kwara State, in a vehicle without a visible registration number.
However, the circumstances surrounding the police operation remain unclear, including whether the officers were acting on a valid warrant or another court order.
The case against Olohun was reportedly filed by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation under Sections 114, 210 and 393(1) of the Penal Code Law of Kwara State.
The organisation alleges that the social media video generated hostile comments against Muslims and constituted incitement to religious disturbance, contempt of religious creed and injurious falsehood.
The matter is before Upper Area Court II in the Ilorin Judicial Division.
