Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent programme has named the winners of its first-ever National Impact Challenge. The awards recognize digital fellows who are applying their skills to solve real problems, not just completing training.

The challenge drew over 2,500 submissions from fellows across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. That volume and geographic spread signal that the country’s digital talent ecosystem is growing faster than many expected when the programme launched.

Winners received prizes across three categories: 100 laptops, 10 tablets and mobile data packages. The combined prize pool stands at N20 million. The awards target the hardware and connectivity gaps that slow fellows down after training ends.

What the challenge was built to do

The National Impact Challenge is not a typical competition. It surfaces the work fellows are already doing and gives them resources to go further. Judges evaluated submissions on how effectively participants applied digital skills to solve real problems in their communities and sectors.

Projects came in from states that have historically sat outside Nigeria’s technology conversation. Fellows from those areas submitted credible, actionable solutions alongside their counterparts in Lagos and Abuja. The geographic spread is one of the challenge’s most significant outcomes.

The minister’s message

Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Minister Bosun Tijani described the challenge as evidence of a generational shift in how young Nigerians engage with technology.

“What we are witnessing through the 3MTT Impact Challenge is the emergence of a new generation of builders. These fellows are not waiting for opportunities, they are creating them. This is how we move as a nation from potential to productivity,” Tijani said.

The 3MTT programme targets three million Nigerians with technical and digital skills training. The National Impact Challenge marks a new phase. The programme is moving beyond certification and toward generating measurable economic and social value for Nigeria.
