Caleb Mutfwang has banned night grazing and night mining in parts of Plateau State following renewed attacks in Barkin Ladi and Bassa communities.

The governor announced the restrictions on Tuesday during a visit to the Nding community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where several residents were recently killed.

The move comes after a deadly attack on Sunday in Barkin Ladi linked to a mining dispute, which claimed the lives of seven people, including a police inspector.

Speaking at a security stakeholders’ meeting in Barkin Ladi, Mutfwang directed that all mining activities in affected communities must end by 5 p.m. daily.

He also banned underage children from herding cattle and warned that livestock owners would now be held fully responsible for the actions of their animals and herders.

According to the governor, the measures are aimed at restoring order and preventing further violence in troubled communities across the state.

Security Agencies Ordered to Go After Attackers

Mutfwang vowed that anyone linked to the attacks, including security personnel found to be complicit, would be investigated and punished.

He assured residents that the state government would ensure justice for victims while security agencies intensify efforts to arrest those responsible for the killings.

The governor also promised improved security for farmers ahead of the farming season and announced plans to support farmers with subsidised fertilisers.

While addressing residents and stakeholders, the governor appealed to the media to avoid reports capable of worsening tensions in the state.

He maintained that Plateau State remains the “Home of Peace and Tourism” despite the recent violence and called on citizens to work together to restore peace in affected communities.
