The Peoples Democratic Party (Peoples Democratic Party) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (Allied Peoples Movement) have officially deepened their political collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The agreement was sealed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, during a high-level gathering at the PDP South-West Secretariat, which brought together party leaders, political stakeholders, supporters, and aspirants from both sides.
The signing ceremony is part of ongoing efforts by opposition parties to consolidate strength and present a more unified front against the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next election cycle.
The event was described as a strategic step toward building political alignment that would enhance cooperation between both parties at all levels of governance.
As part of the agreement, representatives from both parties formally signed the MoU, with Seyi Bamidele signing on behalf of the PDP and Oladele Oyadeji representing the APM.
Governor Seyi Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, also appended their signatures to the agreement, signalling top-level commitment to the alliance.
Coalition Talks and Political Realignment
The development comes amid growing political realignments across Nigeria’s opposition landscape as parties explore possible coalitions ahead of 2027.
The PDP-APM alliance is expected to coordinate strategies for fielding candidates across different levels of elections, including state assemblies and the presidency.
Political observers say the move reflects increasing efforts by opposition groups to close ranks in order to improve their chances against the APC in what is expected to be a highly competitive election season.
