Tragedy struck in Oyo State on Friday after gunmen attacked Community High School in Ahoro-Esinle, located in Oriire Local Government Area, killing a teacher and abducting the school principal alongside several students.

The attack reportedly occurred between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., sending shockwaves across the community as frightened parents and residents rushed to the school seeking information about their children and loved ones.

According to the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, the armed men stormed the school premises, opened fire on a teacher who later died from gunshot injuries, and whisked away the principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, along with an unspecified number of students.

The attackers were said to have fled into a nearby forest reserve after carrying out the operation.

OYOSUBEB Mourns Slain Teacher

Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, condemned the attack, describing it as a painful moment for the state’s education sector.

He expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased teacher, praising his commitment and service to education.

“This is a dark and painful moment for us. We mourn with the family of the teacher whose life was tragically cut short. His dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Adeniran stated.

He also appealed to parents and residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies handling the situation.

The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident and disclosed that security operatives had been deployed to the area.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police personally visited the community alongside a tactical team to coordinate rescue operations and track down the attackers.

He added that authorities were still working to confirm the exact number of students abducted during the attack.
