  • LAUTECH management assured students and staff that the university remains safe after recent school attacks in Oyo State.
  • The institution dismissed rumours of an impending attack and said security agencies are actively monitoring the situation.
  • The assurance followed the abduction of pupils, teachers and a principal during attacks on schools in Oriire LGA.

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, has assured students and staff members that the institution remains safe despite recent attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The assurance followed growing anxiety within the LAUTECH community after gunmen attacked schools in nearby communities and abducted pupils, teachers and a school principal.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the registrar of LAUTECH, Olayinka Balogun, said there was no cause for alarm and dismissed reports suggesting that the university campus could be targeted by attackers.

According to the managementCof LAUTECH, security agencies are actively monitoring the situation while additional security measures have been put in place across the institution.

“The university remains safe, and academic activities continue without disruption as security agencies are actively monitoring the situation,” the statement noted.

LAUTECH Students Urged to Remain Calm

LAUTECH management advised students and staff members to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic within the university community.

It also urged members of the institution to continue their normal academic and social activities while authorities work closely with security agencies to maintain peace and order.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property on campus and promised to provide updates if new developments arise.

The reassurance came after gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that two people were killed during the attack, while several pupils, teachers and a school principal were abducted.

Videos later surfaced online showing some of the abducted victims pleading for government intervention to secure their release.

A viral video allegedly showing the killing of one of the abducted teachers sparked outrage across the country and heightened fears over insecurity in the region.

President Bola Tinubu condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric, and assured Nigerians that security operatives were working tirelessly to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible.

The President also pledged collaboration between the Federal Government and Oyo State Government to secure the release of the abducted persons.
