Suspected bandits have abducted six students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State following a late-night attack on their off-campus residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at a student lodge located on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town, raising fresh concerns about the security situation in the area.

According to reports, seven students were initially targeted during the attack. However, one of the victims managed to escape, leaving six students—three male and three female students—in the custody of the abductors.

A student of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, confirmed the development, explaining that the bandits stormed the residence at night and whisked away the students.

The abduction by the bandits has sparked anxiety among students, parents, and residents, who fear for the safety of those still being held captive.

Local Government Confirms Incident

The Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the bandits attack and assured residents that security agencies were working to secure the release of the victims.

He stated that security operatives had immediately commenced rescue efforts following the incident and expressed optimism that the students would be safely returned.

“The incident occurred, and security operatives are currently carrying out rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students,” the chairman said.

The Zamfara State Police Command also confirmed the abduction on Wednesday, revealing that security personnel had intensified efforts to track down the attackers and rescue the victims.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the attack took place at the students’ residence outside the institution’s main campus.

He explained that one of the students reportedly stepped outside during the night and left the door open, which allegedly gave the bandits an opportunity to gain access to the building.
