  • The Sagamu Magistrate Court adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode to allow legal advice from the state Attorney General.
  • Kayode faces four charges linked to a fatal road accident involving Anthony Joshua’s team.
  • Two of Joshua’s close associates died in the December 2025 crash on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver in a fatal collision that killed two members of heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua’s team, was postponed by a Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

The prosecution requested a postponement of the case until February 25, 2026, so that the case file could be sent to the state Attorney General’s office via the Department of Public Prosecution for legal counsel.

On January 2, the driver identified as Kayode, 46, was initially charged before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun.

Charges Linked to Fatal Crash

Prosecutors charged the driver with four counts, including dangerous driving causing death and reckless and negligent driving, offences brought under sections of the Federal Highway Act as applicable in Ogun State.

Other charges include driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and damage to property, as well as the driver driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The prosecution counsel, Nijiwe Richard, told the court that the adjournment was necessary in the interest of justice. Defence counsel Abiodun Olalekan opposed the request, telling the court that the defence was prepared to proceed with the hearing.

After listening to both sides, the magistrate granted the prosecution’s application and fixed February 25 for further hearing.
