Former Rivers governor and ex-transport minister Rotimi Amaechi joined protesters in Abuja on Tuesday as demonstrations continued over the Senate’s rejection of mandatory electronic transmission of election results.
The protest, held at the National Assembly complex, entered its second day after it began on Monday.
Amaechi said political leaders should lead from the front during major protests and even involve their families. He urged opposition parties and civil society groups to unite and resist the Senate’s decision.
Amaechi Accuses Ruling Party of Fear
He alleged that the ruling APC opposes electronic transmission because it fears losing elections.
He questioned why the party would resist the process if it is confident of public support.
Amaechi compared current living conditions with those during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, claiming things are worse now.
He also alleged that corruption has increased under President Bola Tinubu and suggested it would be difficult for the president to win the 2027 election.
He said demonstrations would go on even if Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Tinubu ignore them, insisting that “the will of the people must prevail.”
