KEY POINTS

  • Fayose held a private meeting with the Olubadan amid rising political tension in Oyo State.
  • The visit follows allegations of a plot against the monarch and impeachment rumours targeting Governor Makinde.
  • Details of the meeting remain undisclosed, but Fayose hinted that more information will soon surface.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday met privately with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in a development that has intensified political intrigue in Oyo State.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, comes at a time of heightened political tension, following Fayose’s earlier allegation that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was plotting to remove the monarch from the throne.

The situation has been further complicated by reports of a potential impeachment move against Makinde by the Oyo State House of Assembly, rumours that have also drawn the traditional institution into the unfolding controversy.

Addressing journalists briefly before the meeting, Fayose said his visit was aimed at showing solidarity with the traditional institution, adding that clarity on the ongoing issues would soon emerge.

However, details of the discussions between the former governor and the monarch were not made public

The situation has been further heightened by reports of an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Makinde by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly. While no formal proceedings have been confirmed, the speculation has stirred concerns about possible instability within the state’s political structure.

Observers note that the reported involvement—or perceived alignment—of the traditional institution in the political crisis has added a sensitive dimension, given the historical influence of traditional rulers in maintaining peace and balance in Yoruba land.
