The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives during the 2027 general elections.
Obasa, who currently represents Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege on Tuesday ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections.
The seasoned lawmaker, who has served in the Lagos Assembly since 2003 and is currently in his sixth term, said his decision to seek a federal legislative position followed extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders within his constituency.
According to him, party elders and influential figures in Agege encouraged him to contest for the House of Representatives seat, believing he possesses the experience and capacity to represent the constituency effectively at the national level.
Speaking at the meeting, Obasa stressed the importance of unity within the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 elections.
He urged party members and supporters to remain loyal and committed to the progress of the party, noting that internal unity would be crucial to the APC’s success in future elections.
“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better,” Obasa stated during the gathering.
Obasa endorsed other APC aspirants within Agege
The Speaker also used the occasion to endorse other APC aspirants seeking elective positions within Agege.
He appealed to party members to support Ganiyu Egunjobi, the former chairman of Agege Local Government Area, who is aspiring to represent Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa described Egunjobi as a committed public servant who had contributed significantly to the development of the local government and deserved the backing of loyal APC members.
He equally canvassed support for Azeez Ninolowo, an aspirant seeking to represent Agege Constituency II.
According to Obasa, the constituency requires representatives with proven experience, loyalty, and dedication to addressing the needs and challenges confronting residents.
He maintained that the APC must present competent and credible candidates capable of sustaining development and strengthening the party’s influence in Agege.
The declaration by Obasa is expected to further shape political activities within the APC in Lagos ahead of the 2027 elections, especially in Agege, where the Speaker remains one of the most influential political figures.
