Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured re-election as the governor of Osun State after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the state governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after completing the collation of results from all 30 local government areas in the state.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes. The result gave the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The final results showed that Adeleke secured victory in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
Adeleke’s strongest performances came from areas where he built sizeable margins, particularly in Ede North and Ede South.
In Ede North, Adeleke received 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, giving him a massive 25,144-vote advantage.
The governor also recorded a commanding victory in Ede South, where he polled 26,188 votes against the APC candidate’s 6,219. That represented a margin of 19,969 votes.
Combined, the two Ede local government areas gave Adeleke 61,615 votes compared with APC’s 16,502, producing a net advantage of 45,113 votes.
That performance became one of the major factors behind Adeleke’s statewide victory.
Osogbo Adds to Governor’s Lead
Adeleke also secured victory in Osogbo, the state capital, where he defeated Oyebamiji by 6,006 votes.
The governor polled 36,480 votes in the local government, while the APC candidate received 30,474 votes.
The result was significant because Osogbo is one of the state’s major political centres and has traditionally attracted strong competition between the major parties.
The ADC recorded 1,503 votes in Osogbo, representing one of its stronger performances among the results provided.
The governor also performed strongly across much of the Ife axis.
