Nigeria’s Sports Minister Urges Supers Eagles to Claim AFCON Trophy

In an electrifying match held in Uyo, Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, displayed their prowess with a commanding 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe.

This impressive feat has further bolstered the aspirations of the nation, especially the Sports Development Minister, Senator John Enoh, who dreams of the team clinching the coveted Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy in Ivory Coast in the upcoming year.

During this memorable Sunday showdown, several players distinguished themselves, cementing the team’s dominance on the field. Striker Victor Osimhen was particularly outstanding, netting three goals in a stellar hat-trick performance.

His compatriots, Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Samuel Chukwueze, further deepened the wound for the True Parrots, each scoring to solidify the win. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the Super Eagles have shown such dominance against this opponent, having previously bested the True Parrots with an overwhelming 10-0 victory in the preceding year.

Senator Enoh, reflecting the overwhelming sentiment of pride and optimism that has gripped the nation, heaped praises on the team.

“This isn’t just a victory on the pitch; it’s a testament to our national spirit and determination,” remarked Enoh.

“While we celebrate today, our gaze is fixed firmly on the horizon – towards the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast. We don’t just aim to participate; we aim to conquer, to bring the trophy back to Nigerian soil.”

Underlining the government’s unwavering support, Enoh emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to equipping the team for the challenges ahead. He lauded the players for their unwavering commitment, passion, and deep sense of patriotism.

“The heart and soul these players pour into every match is commendable. It is this very spirit and dedication that we believe will be the wind beneath their wings, propelling them to victory at the AFCON.”

It’s noteworthy to mention that the Super Eagles have consistently showcased their pedigree in the qualifiers. Their nerve-wracking 3-2 triumph against Sierra Leone in June had already secured their spot in the tournament. Finishing their qualifying run with a commendable 15 points from six matches, they emerged leaders of Group A, further reinforcing their reputation as formidable contenders for the AFCON title.
