Political tensions in Nigeria have surged. The All Progressives Congress (APC) disputes comments by Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopeful. The APC suggests Abubakar’s campaign faces hurdles despite his strategies.
According to a report by Leadership, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar’s spokesperson, criticized the Tinubu administration. He accused them of false claims instead of addressing governance. In response, Felix Morka, APC’s publicity secretary, brushed off Shaibu’s remarks. He attributed them to the PDP’s past election failures.
“Shaibu’s view shows limited insight, possibly from repeated electoral losses,” said Morka. Additionally, he praised President Tinubu for enhancing national security.
However, Shaibu retorted, questioning the APC about petrol costs. He highlighted a price gap between diesel and petrol. This raised questions about the government’s stance on petroleum deregulation.
“The price difference between diesel and petrol is strange,” Shaibu observed. “Given rising oil prices and exchange rates, the APC’s public statements seem misleading.”
He also criticized APC’s governance decisions. He highlighted the contradiction in APC’s promise to reduce costs, yet President Tinubu appointed 48 ministers. Shaibu believes Nigeria’s economy has suffered for ten years under the APC.
Moreover, he pointed to Nigeria’s decline as Africa’s top oil producer. “Poverty has soared under APC’s rule,” he added. He urged President Tinubu to clarify rumors about meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden. For him, genuine governance trumps publicity stunts.
In this APC-PDP rivalry, the genuine concern is Nigeria’s future. Key areas include governance, economic stability, and transparency.
