D’banj Celebrates Two Decades in Music with a Free Street Concert

Published on

Nigerian musician D’banj is set to commemorate 20 years of an illustrious career with a ‘Thank You concert’ at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos. This event, scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, marks a full-circle moment for the artist who launched his career on the very streets he returns to celebrate.

D’banj, also known as the Koko Master by his legion of fans, took to Instagram to announce the concert, inviting fans to join him in a grand celebration of his two decades in the music industry. “All roads lead to the New Afrika Shrine on Tuesday, June 11. It’s a free concert in celebration of my 20 years on stage for all of you who have stuck with the Koko Master since 2004 till date. The street is where it all started and we are back to where it all began,” he posted.

The concert is expected to draw a crowd of notable figures from the music industry, including top artists and stakeholders, making it one of the most anticipated events in Nigeria’s entertainment calendar this year. The choice of the New Afrika Shrine as the venue, a place teeming with cultural significance and musical history, further enhances the symbolic nature of the event, connecting D’banj’s milestone with the heart of Nigerian music culture.

In addition to the concert announcement, D’banj shared an important moment involving his former business partner and renowned producer, Don Jazzy. The duo, who founded Mo’Hits Records in 2004, split in 2012 due to creative differences, with Don Jazzy establishing Mavin Records and D’banj starting his own label, DB Records. Despite their professional paths diverging, the bond they share remains intact, as evidenced by D’banj’s touching recount of inviting Don Jazzy to his 20-year anniversary dinner.

“Giving you the invite to my anniversary dinner was a moment filled with nostalgia. As we both celebrate 20 years in the industry, I’m reminded of the countless memories and milestones we’ve shared together. Here’s to two decades of brotherhood, entertainment, and unwavering support. Love you always, Brother!” D’banj expressed, revealing the deep personal and professional connections that have shaped his career.

This anniversary celebration not only highlights D’banj’s significant contributions to the music space but also highlights the importance of roots and relationships in sustaining a successful career in the ever-evolving world of entertainment.
