Peter Obi warns of starvation risk for 38 million Nigerians

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender and a former governor of Anambra State, claims that 38 million people in Nigeria are in danger of starvation, according to a story by The Punch.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, came under fire from Obi for excessive spending, which he claimed had made the state of living for Nigerians even worse.

Obi criticizes government for wasteful spending

According to a report by Punch, he mentioned a few examples of government wasteful spending, including the $100 million acquisition of a new presidential jet, the N21 billion restoration of the vice president’s lodge, and the N15 billion building of the National Assembly clinic.

Obi went on, “You cannot ask people to fast while you are feasting.” 

In an interview with News Central TV, Obi stated that the Federal Government needs to make use of its limited resources to solve problems in important development domains like security, health, education, and poverty reduction.

According to all available data, 38 million people in Nigeria are at risk of severe hunger; we are the global center of poverty. Food insecurity and human insecurity are the two main causes of the current catastrophe.

Obi stated, “We must invest in agriculture to address this in order to address inflation, unemployment, and hunger.”

Prior to the 2027 presidential election, he made hints about the potential for a merger with other opposition parties in an attempt to save Nigerians from starvation and pervasive insecurity.
