Its mandate also includes fostering diaspora investments and strengthening Nigeria’s international presence.
NiDCOM’s role in addressing global challenges for Nigerians
Speaking during the commission’s five-year anniversary celebration in Abuja, Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the organization’s significant achievements, noting the resolution of numerous urgent issues, including the repatriation of stranded Nigerians and the intervention in cases of mistreatment abroad.
“Over 1,000 petitions have been successfully addressed, which speaks to the dedication and commitment of the NiDCOM team,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
While the commission has made notable strides, Dabiri-Erewa acknowledged the challenges faced, particularly in dealing with complex consular and trafficking issues.
However, she expressed optimism about the future, emphasizing NiDCOM’s ongoing efforts to create a safer, more supportive environment for Nigerians living abroad.
The commission’s role in promoting diaspora investments has also been a key achievement, with NiDCOM playing a central part in attracting foreign capital to Nigeria.
The goal is to harness the potential of the Nigerian diaspora to boost the nation’s economy and create job opportunities.

According to Punch, he expressed confidence that the commission will continue to provide effective services and enhance Nigeria’s relations with its diaspora.
Bassi emphasized the importance of further strengthening diaspora engagement, which he believes is crucial for attracting more investments to the country.
