Portable Remanded in Ilorin Prison Over Defamation Charges

Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court on April 14, 2025.

According to SaharaReporters, Portable was arraigned on multiple charges, including criminal defamation, cyberstalking, criminal intimidation, and inciting public disturbance.

These charges stem from a petition filed by veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa, who accused Portable of making defamatory statements during a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025.

In the video, Portable allegedly accused Osupa of sabotaging his music career by removing his song from streaming platforms.

Court sets stringent bail conditions

The court granted Portable bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with the condition that he provides two sureties of equal amount.

One surety must be a senior official of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other must own property within a

Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, supported by a valid Certificate of Occupancy. As of press time, Portable remains in custody, unable to meet these conditions.

The case, documented under First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, includes charges under Sections 392, 397, and 114 of the Penal Code, as well as applicable sections of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.

The presiding magistrate, Sunday Adeniyi, has adjourned the matter until April 30, 2025, and urged all parties to maintain decorum as proceedings continue.​
