But here’s the catch: too much screen time can mess with your head. Ever tried studying but couldn’t concentrate because your hand kept reaching for your phone? Or maybe you catch yourself scrolling for “just 5 minutes” and suddenly two hours are gone? That’s phone addiction — and many of us are struggling with it without even realizing.

Easy ways to reduce screen time without going offline completely

You don’t need to go full monk mode. Start small. Use your phone’s settings (yes, they work!) to track your screen time.

Android and iPhone have built-in features that show how long you spend on each app. You might be shocked.

Set screen time limits. You can begin with apps that waste the most time — maybe TikTok, maybe Instagram, maybe YouTube. Turn off notifications that don’t matter. Those constant pings are a trap.

Try “no phone” hours. For example, don’t touch your phone till after breakfast or during meals. Before you sleep, plug your phone far away from your bed. Your eyes (and mind) will thank you.

Instead of mindless scrolling, do something else — read, play music, sketch, even gist with someone. The goal is to replace the habit, not just stop it.

Let’s face it — change is hard, especially when your phone feels like your best friend. But consistency is key. Don’t beat yourself up when you slip. Just reset and try again.

Celebrate small wins: a full day of minimal screen time? Na you biko! Involve your friends and hold each other accountable. Try fun challenges like “no phone after 8 p.m.” or “Sunday scroll detox.”

And if you want to go pro, try putting your screen in grayscale. It makes your phone look boring — and surprisingly, it works.
