AAC Rejects FCT Area Council Poll Results, Alleges Widespread Irregularities

KEY POINTS

  • AAC rejected the FCT Area Council election results, calling the process manipulated and undemocratic.
  • The party alleged missing PVCs disenfranchised hundreds of voters, particularly in Kwali Area Council.
  • It also blamed a movement-restricting curfew for preventing many residents from voting.

The African Action Congress, AAC, has rejected the results of the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, describing the process as fundamentally compromised and undemocratic.

In a statement issued Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, alleged that the exercise was marred by systemic manipulation, voter suppression, and institutional failure.

According to the party, the poll was “not a democratic exercise but a coordinated assault on the will of the people.”

Alleged Disenfranchisement Before Voting Day

The AAC claimed irregularities began prior to election day, particularly in Kwali Area Council, where it said hundreds of registered voters were unable to participate because the Independent National Electoral Commission failed to account for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The party argued that the missing cards effectively prevented affected citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote.

The AAC further alleged that a curfew imposed by the FCT administration restricted movement and stopped many voters especially civil servants from reaching polling units located in the city centre of Abuja.

According to the statement, the restrictions significantly reduced participation and undermined the credibility of the electoral outcome.
