The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, has conducted an on-the-spot security assessment at Pan-Atlantic University, Lekki, after a viral video showed two masked individuals emerging from a forest area beside the institution. He carried out the visit alongside operational personnel to evaluate the situation and reassure students, staff and parents.
Police chief inspects the campus
During the assessment, Jimoh met the university’s management and stressed the need to keep strengthening the institution’s security architecture against potential threats. Moreover, he advised the management on practical steps to enhance safety on and around the campus, while cautioning against actions that could inadvertently weaken existing security structures.
According to a statement from the Lagos State Police Command, Jimoh emphasized proactive measures, particularly in perimeter protection, access control and collaboration with relevant agencies. Furthermore, he urged the institution to sustain close cooperation with security agencies and stay vigilant against emerging challenges. “The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State,” he said, while encouraging the university community to report suspicious activities promptly.
Drones boost campus surveillance
As part of efforts to strengthen operations in the area, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has deployed surveillance drones to support law enforcement around the university and neighboring communities. The Lagos State Government facilitated the deployment, which officials expect to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention across the axis.
Speaking during the visit, Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property statewide. Consequently, he assured the management, staff, students and parents of the police’s readiness to respond swiftly to security concerns and maintain a safe learning environment.
In addition, the command reiterated its resolve to maintain peace and public safety, urging residents to stay security-conscious and share credible, timely information with law enforcement. It also encouraged residents to use its emergency lines to report incidents and suspicious movements. Ultimately, the assessment followed heightened public concern over the viral video, and the authorities moved quickly to reassure the public and tighten surveillance around the institution and its environs. By pairing the visit with drone deployment, the police sought to project both presence and capability in an axis where forested surroundings have raised safety worries.
