How the transaction allegedly unfolded
The complainant, Bashir Mohammed, alleged that he was persuaded to buy a plot of land located in Tarauni Local Government Area. Yahaya reportedly sent bank details via WhatsApp, presenting himself as the legitimate owner of the property and agreeing on a sale price of 70 million naira.
Payment was allegedly made the next day through the businessman’s wife’s account, after which the suspect confirmed receipt and scheduled a document-signing meeting. However, the transaction reportedly took a dramatic turn when the suspect later claimed the land actually belonged to Bello Ado Bayero, asserting that traditional leaders often conduct such deals through intermediaries.
Investigators later discovered that documents shown to the buyer were allegedly forged. Further complicating the matter, the land is said to be subject to ongoing litigation at the Federal High Court involving other parties.
After the dispute surfaced, the petitioner reportedly confronted Bello Ado Bayero seeking a refund, but alleged that the money was not returned, prompting a formal complaint to police.
Investigators are currently reviewing bank records, documents, and witness statements as they work to determine whether a wider fraud network exists and what roles each named suspect may have played.
