Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Delta North senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the declaration at his residence in Asaba, where he was flanked by prominent political figures and stakeholders from across the district.

Okowa’s ambition received unanimous backing from a delegation comprising former and serving lawmakers, government officials, and key political actors drawn from the nine local government areas of Delta North.

The endorsement signals strong early support for his senatorial bid within the Anioma political bloc.

Okowa Apologises for Supporting Ned Nwoko

In a notable moment during his declaration, Okowa apologised to his supporters for previously backing Senator Ned Nwoko, describing the decision as a “mistake.”

He explained that his renewed ambition stems from what he called a “call to serve,” pledging to better represent the interests of the people if elected.

The former governor also expressed deep appreciation to the Anioma people for their consistent support throughout his political journey, including his successful senatorial bid in 2011 and his subsequent two-term tenure as governor of Delta State.

He assured constituents of his commitment to inclusive leadership and effective representation.
