Tinubu Shapes FCT Leadership with Key Appointments

Published on

President Bola Tinubu has made a decisive move to enhance the governance structure of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by approving a new Head of Service and nine Permanent Secretaries, marking a significant step in the administration’s commitment to efficient public service. The announcement, made by Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press in the FCT Minister’s Office, follows a formal request from FCT Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, showcasing a collaborative effort to bolster the capital’s administrative framework.

Strategic Appointments for Development

In line with the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission (Establishment) Act, 2018, the appointments reflect a diverse representation across Nigeria’s geo-political zones. The newly appointed Chairman and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission include Engr. Emeka Ezeh as Chairman, with representatives from each geo-political zone contributing to a balanced and inclusive governance model. This strategic approach aims to address the complexities of managing the FCT by leveraging diverse insights and experiences.

Furthermore, the appointment of Abdulkadir Zulkarfi and others to critical agencies within the FCT Administration emphasizes the government’s intent to prioritize satellite towns’ development, urban management, and infrastructure investment, crucial for the capital’s burgeoning growth.

Strengthening the Bureaucratic Structure

Atang Udo Samuel, ascending as the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, exemplifies the merit-based promotion of seasoned bureaucrats, ensuring the continuity and stability of public service delivery. The selection of Permanent Secretaries based on competence and geographical spread further underlines the administration’s dedication to fostering a capable and representative civil service.

This comprehensive restructuring, underscored by the appointments of seasoned directors such as Dr. Adams Baba Gana and Wanki Adamu Ibrahim, among others, signals a renewed focus on enhancing operational efficiency within the FCT’s administration.

Forward-Looking Governance

These appointments coincide with Minister Wike’s broader vision for the FCT, including significant policy shifts like the administration’s move away from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). As the FCT embarks on this new administrative chapter, the blend of experienced leadership and fresh perspectives promises to invigorate the capital’s development trajectory, aligning closely with national goals for sustainable urban growth and effective governance.

The collective expertise and diversity of the newly appointed officials position the FCT for an era of enhanced service delivery, governance transparency, and strategic development planning. As the capital city continues to evolve, these leadership appointments are pivotal in steering the Federal Capital Territory towards a future marked by progress, inclusivity, and resilience.
